Day 4: Otto Lilienthal was the first person to design a glider that could fly a person and was able to fly long distances. After more than 2500 flights, Otto Lilienthal was killed when he lost control because of a sudden strong wind and crashed into the ground. Samuel Langley built a model of a plane, which he called an aerodrome, that included a steam-powered engine. In 1891, his model flew for 3/4s of a mile before running out of fuel. Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright were the first to fly a heavy plane. Orville piloted the plane which weighed six hundred and five pounds. The first heavier-than-air flight traveled one hundred twenty feet in twelve seconds. During the next century, many new airplanes and engines were developed to help transport people, luggage, cargo, military personnel and weapons. A glider is a light aircraft designed to fly for long periods without using an engine. An airplane is a A powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces.

Day 5&6:
Wingsuits, like any airfoil, creates lift and drag. Lift and drag are aerodynamic forces that depend on the shape and size of the flying body, air conditions, and the flight velocity. Lift is directed perpendicular to the flight path and drag is directed along the flight path. The best wing design is a rounded wing with a slight point and a half circle with point for the tail. The wings should be bent up with 45 degree angle for most efficient flight.

Day 7&8: I built several gliders and tested them all but they did not fly very well. It mostly flew straight down to the ground. I made some modifications that helped it successfully fly. Photo_on_2012-03-19_at_08.33.jpg


Day 9: I went by the design of a B-2 stealth bomber plane.
